Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third grade students are motivated and eager to learn. They strive to reach goals set by me, and then challenge themselves with higher personal goals.

My students attend a Title 1 school with 700 other enthusiastic students.

They attend a Two Way Bilingual Immersion program where they have excelled in learning to speak, read, write and complete math in Spanish. This year they are especially motivated because they are transitioning into English reading and writing, and are reading higher level chapter books in Spanish. They eagerly come to class ready to learn and love to work collaboratively in order to help each other learn the material being taught.

My Project

It is extremely difficult and expensive to find quality books in Spanish. I believe that by having a class set of Me llamo Maria Isabel and Gracias a Winn Dixie, they will help to improve my Spanish learners' academic vocabulary and improve their reading comprehension. I believe that they will enjoy the stories and relate to the characters.

Donating to this project will allow my students to read quality novels and delve deep into the various structures of literature.

It will help them to analyze the characters, the problems in the novel, and relate the story to their own personal experiences.
