I serve a lot of high needs students from low-income families in middle school. They are constantly hungry and saying they didn't get breakfast or can't afford lunch. They work hard and are trying to raise their skills to better themselves.
One student today came in and said he couldn't focus because he was so hungry, I gave him my granola bar.
This happens multiple times in each class. My para and I each purchase at least one box of some type of healthy snack but the needs of the students are too great for our resources.
My Project
Every day I would guess you get up, get ready for work and eat a healthy breakfast. Many of my students do not have this option. Focusing and learning are very difficult when they are hungry. It breaks my heart to say we are out of snacks for the week.
