Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classes day in and day out are full of students who come to school willing and ready to learn. They are full of energy, curious of the world around them, and ready for a challenge. I will be entering my 5th year of teaching and I am once again wanting to provide that challenge for my students.
My students come from literally all over the world.
We have students who have come from Central America, South East Asia, Eastern Africa, and many other places. Students of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 55% of our district's enrollment. Minority students as a whole make up over 80% of the enrollment. Nearly 80% of the students qualify for free and reduced price lunches. These students embrace their differences and add a unique perspective to their learning environment.
My Project
These Raspberry Pi kits and 5 headphone splitters will be a great addition to the "maker space" that I have been working to provide for the students. Student will in a sense be making a computer and perform simple coding/programming with the units. Students will also work towards understanding the hardware and software components that make up computer systems, and how they communicate with one another and with other systems.
Students will be exposed to a STEM environment in class.
They will use math and science when they learn how a computer works or a micro-controller can be programmed. They will be engineering when they develop a unique use of the Raspberry Pi to solve a problem.
