My students are asking for more technology. I am learning as fast as I can to keep a couple of steps ahead of them. All the while, I am modeling the attitude of a life long learner to them. They wanted to code. We are we are coding with Code.org and Kahn Academy. They wanted robots, so we are building Vex robots and entering robotics competitions. They want to design buildings and industrial prototypes, so we are learning to use SketchUp. They are like sponges, eager to be filled with new knowledge. They are not timid around technology and science. They are runny full speed towards it.
It is my the privilege to work with these courageous, confident, and enthusiastic students.
I teach these 4th through 8th graders in Atascadero, CA. As you can imagine, my students are energetic and fun. They keep me on my toes. They want to "do" things. I take every opportunity that I can find to get them involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Each time I give my students a challenge, they don't hesitate to try it.
The future looks bright in my classroom, indeed!
My Project
My 7th and 8th Grade Tech Class is working with Arduino technology and some of the groups are ready to move on to the more powerful raspberry pi. We will be programming the Raspberry Pi to complete two functions where the Arduino only completes one function. These types of devices require coding skills and teaches students how a "mini computer" works.
I am looking to get two Raspberry Pi starter kits for my class to get a handful of groups up and running.
We will be creating remote control locking doors, home-made Nintendo switches, camcorders, and any other type of invention that my students can come up with.
