Raspberry Pi in the Library? Let's Research!

My Students

My students visit our school library both on their own and with their classes. They eagerly flock to my shelves to read books that spark their interests. Keeping the shelves stocked with compelling books, and keeping those books in good condition, can be a difficult task.

My students are a great bunch of kids, with a from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Between all of my students, nearly every genre and subject is in demand. When students have access to books that interest them, they love to read.

Our students tend to be less economically well off, and I want to ensure that they still have equal access to the materials that are available to students in wealthier neighborhoods.

My Project

My students need reliable access to internet resources and the library catalog. While I have computers, I don't have enough kiosks and free units to allow all students access at all times. Computers can be expensive to maintain and repair, and it would be nice to have kiosks and computers with easily maintainable parts.

Adding Raspberry Pi units will allow more students to make use of the online catalog and internet resources, making their time in the library more productive.

In addition, these units are easy to upgrade or replace with inexpensive new boards as they are released. More computer access is essential if I want my students to have equitable access to digital resources.
