Rare Animals And Their Ecosystems- A Book and Art Exploration
My students need watercolor pencils, sketch books, and a class set of books about understanding our world and ecosystems. I am also requesting a DVD and photo books about rare and endangered animals.
We are a school located near Tampa Bay, Florida with a high poverty rate. This is a performing arts public charter school. I encourage, teach, and mentor my students through the arts.
Artsy people are unique and beautiful people to be near; they inspire others to do, think about, and become more than they already are.
I teach Earth and Space Science to 150 middle school students. My students are eclectic and artistic. They are preteens and teens full of ambition and emotions. They are sensitive, smart, sweet, and talented. Many are very humorous, and some are insecure and looking for a safe place to just be themselves.
Most of my students ride the bus for long periods of time just to get here.
My Project
I am very excited about the "compassion for animals" match that is happening right now. I have a "Discovery class" of 26 students that would love to learn more about how ecosystems support amazing animals.
After viewing the DVD titled "Rare: Creatures of the Photo Ark DVD" and reading the class set of books about our Earth's ecosystems, students will be challenged to use the watercolor sketch book and watercolor pencils to create inspired art or poetry about animals or ecosystems.
This is an amazing project request that I could never afford on my own. Imagine, each student will have their very own watercolor book with poetry, animal images, or ecosystem habitat paintings!

My students are old enough to understand that our influences on ecosystems can make a difference between life or death for animals. I am hopeful that this project will leave lasting impressions about conservation that will stay with them for a lifetime.
