I teach middle school students who fit a range of descriptions and have a wide variety of needs. Our county is facing major funding cuts and consequently, reductions in teaching positions. This negatively impacts all of our students because it stretches each teacher to build positive relationships with each of their students. In our classes, some students struggle to read grade-level text, while others are voracious readers. In the middle of these extremes are students who are successful readers, but who have not yet connected with the right material to foster an enjoyment of learning.
My classroom is a safe learning zone where I challenge students to think about their place and purpose in this world.
Because our county is facing such daunting financial challenges, education for my students is my top priority as it is the key to overcoming difficult things, breaking unhealthy cycles, and finding success. All of my students are wonderful young men and women who are searching for how they fit into this world and how they can make a difference. They work diligently and struggle through new learning with the support of their teacher and peers.
My team of teachers strives to provide various opportunities that help fill learning gaps for our students. In our rural school district, funding has diminished over the last several years, placing greater stress on personnel and resources to equitably provide a rigorous education.
My team would like to use Flocabulary to supplement the information in each core subject area.
This site is a fun, engaging platform for student learning of all subject areas. It is easily accessible with a membership, and students remember the information because it is presented in a musical format. Each song and lesson reinforces what students experience in the classrooms.
