This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students all come from various backgrounds and have different abilities. All of my students are considered delayed, including cognitively, developmentally, and socially. I have students who do not hear English at home, students who are non-verbal, students who use sign language, and students who speak very well. I have students who can write sentences and students who are unable to write at all. All of my students are delayed in some way and need additional help with academics and life skills.
To keep my students excited and wanting to come to school, we do many hands-on activities and crafts associated with our curriculum, and we incorporate many more with the holidays and seasons.
We also teach cooking activities, and life skills such as loading and unloading a dishwasher, sweeping, wiping tables, sorting, washing, and folding.
74% of the students here receive free or reduced price meals. We also have a large portion of English Language Learners. Our school services the homeless population, as well as the many hotels, motels, extended stays, and apartments. We have a very transient population in our school.
My Project
My students need outdoor recess! With the weather finally getting warmer, we are getting ready for outdoor recess. My students are tired of having indoor recess and are excited to get outside! I would like to encourage appropriate group play outside for my students. I have a class of mostly boys and they get a little too rowdy on the playground. With the items requested in this project, I hope to contain a little of the the rowdiness and allow them to channel their energy in more appropriate ways. The sidewalk chalk and bubbles will be used for my students with limited mobility to be able to enjoy recess too. The parachute will provide a fun teacher led group activity. The handprints and footprints can be used in multiple ways to encourage following directions. The stilts will provide some heavy work activities for my super energetic students. The beanbag and ring toss games will help us with our hand-eye coordination and the playground balls will be used for many different playground games. Donating to this project will allow my students to participate in outdoor recess and exert the extra energy to help us focus on our afternoon learning activities. Thank you for considering a donation to this project and making a difference in my classroom and the lives of my students.
