I teach third grade in a rural school district. I have 25 students in my classroom. I have a mix of all ability levels. Our strengths vary from proficient problem solvers to rocking readers.
Our classroom is a place for students of all ability levels.
We really enjoy working in small groups , using technology to conduct research projects, and reading a variety of high interest text. Through the use of several different programs, we are able to differentiate to target the learning levels of all of our students.
Third grade is a big transition when it comes to reading. Students LOVE reading chapter books, The Ramona series by Beverly Cleary really draws students in and holds their attention.
Ramona the Pest is an engaging book that would be great to have in ALL students' hands.
We currently only have one copy that I read aloud from. By having enough for the entire class, students would be able to follow along and be engaged in the reading. This would also allow them to participate in writing about what they are reading and work through some vocabulary by using context clues.
Introducing students to a novel that is a part of a series is a sure way to create lifelong readers.
