Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is one of the most important years in a child's education. I want my students to leave kindergarten feeling capable, confident, and believing they are reading Superstars! Children learn best when they have a wide variety of literacy activities that are engaging and fun.
I have 27 students who are excited to learn.
My students need a literacy rich classroom environment. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and languages. 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We are a program improvement school. Our school has many needs and limited resources.
My Project
Many of my students did not attend preschool, therefore, they need lots of letter recognition and writing practice. The A-Z Magnatabs will engage my students for long periods. My students will gain phonics skills while playing with the CVC word puzzles. As my students listen to the various read along libraries they will gain concepts of print knowledge as well as a deeper understanding of how reading works. They will also gain experience with non-fiction texts features using the non-fiction read alongs. Finally, as they use the emergent reader books, they will be reading independently.
My classroom will come alive with many literacy rich activities that will delight and inform my students about how reading works.
Using these resources my students will develop phonemic awareness and phonics skills. Lastly, the emergent readers will get my students reading on their own. Being a proficient reader is critical to a student's success. These donations will start my students on their way!
