Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Playing games and learning at the same time?! My students love to do this; however, my classroom does not have the appropriate materials for them to effectively do so.
My students are vivacious, competitive teenagers who learn best when they are having fun.
It does not take much to get them excited. In fact, the simple phrase "team challenge" gets them riled up, but in a good way. They become engaged and eager to answer questions. It is because of these attitudes that our test scores have consistently risen over the past six years. Despite being a Title I school, our students try their best (and more often than not, succeed) in whatever they do.
My Project
Something as small as dry erase paddles can make a big difference in my classroom. These paddles will enable me to use a variety of educational games to make learning fun, and to make the information actually stick with my students. I created "makeshift" paddles using rulers and pieces of paper. These were a great temporary solution, but the enthusiasm of the students using them destroyed each and every one! Having the paddles will enable students to enthusiastically participate in team challenges and answer reading questions for years to come.
My students get excited with things as small as stamps.
I know having brand new paddles that were designed specifically for educational games would get them even more excited to play, which would ultimately get them excited to learn. And the more they play, the more they learn.
