Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a high-poverty school, I have the opportunity to work with a group of students from a variety of backgrounds who all contribute unique skills and experiences to our classroom.
Our class is made up of a multilingual and global community of learners, with over half the class speaking a language other than English at home.
These bright, innovative, spunky students are enthusiastic readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They deserve the best education in the world!
My Project
The ability to understand and use academic language is one of the most important skills that sets high performing students apart in school. This type of language is vastly different from the type used in everyday conversations, and yet it permeates many aspects of life - from businesses, to textbooks, to news, and more.
I want my students to be confident in their use of academic language so that when it is needed, they can raise their voices and fight for their beliefs in many different arenas.
With these recording devices, my students will be able to record and listen to their own academic conversations with each other during classroom discussions and literature circles. By replaying their own conversations, my students will be able to grow in their academic language and master the ability to elaborate, clarify, synthesize, debate, and more.
