Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my class we start our class by saying "I can learn, I will learn, I must learn." This teaches my students that they can learn, must learn, and will learn while in math class.
Every day students come into the classroom ready to increase their skills in math.
There are many students (especially ESL students) who are working at a 3rd or 4th grade level in math. My students are 8th graders who need to be prepared for high school in 9 months. Our school has 53% population of ESL learners. While 94% are at or below the poverty level. Many of my students don't understand the importance of math and the skills that will be needed when entering the professional field. I want to get my student excited about where math can take them. I want my students to understand how math has a place in every aspect of life. My students and I both want to watch their math skills improve so that they can feel powerful over being able to accomplish whatever their dreams can take them.
My Project
Many of my students don't believe math is important and the question I am asked on a regular bases is "When will I ever need this in real life." Each iPad will help my students who are struggling in math by allowing to obtain programs that will increase their level of understanding. These iPads will also allow my students to create projects using apps to show off their knowledge and skills that they have gained in math. The apps will allow the student to design buildings, homes, and other geometric objects that will show them why it is so important to know and understand math.
When choosing this project you will be helping me inspire my students to want to increase their skills in math.
They will also use these materials to understand how important math is in their lives and where math can take them in the future. They will be able to see how much people care about their education and in turn inspire to show what the kindness of others have encouraged them to become.
