Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my first year teaching and I am excited to start in a district that provides education in a setting for students of all different backgrounds. Many of my students are English Language Learners and I want to provide a setting that is welcoming to all.
My students already feel the pressures of working hard and have already found the benefits of yoga, breathing and relaxing to help cope with stress and developing mindfulness.
I want to provide some "rainy day" educational games, as well as yoga mats to help them de-stress and relax during their hectic days at school.
My Project
My class is seeking games and activities to help bring a little fun to learning on a rainy day. We will use these games and activities in pairs and small groups to help enrich our learning. The games can be used during a rainy day recess when students are done with their work and have extra time or when we need to have a little fun with each other! With games like Boggle and Scrabble, students can gain experience with spelling, brainstorming and creating words. Apples to Apples is one of their favorite games that also deepens their understanding with vocabulary and adjectives. With the Multiplication Bingo, they can practice their math fluency of multiplication and division, a 3rd grade standard. My students will gain a sense of responsibility by keeping their games clean and organized in the rolling cart and bins.
The games we are seeking will help them with literacy, vocabulary, counting and multiplication and will help all levels of learners dive deeper into the curriculum while socializing and unwinding from a hard day's work.
The resources we are asking for will improve our classroom by bringing a little educational fun to a rainy day! These games will change the way they think about school because they will be able to have fun, socialize and build on their understanding of content.
