Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Save 5th graders from being bored and getting themselves into trouble during inclement weather days.
My students are eager learners, who always want to have something to do.
They excel in academics and thus are in an accelerated program. Unfortunately due to budget cuts and earmarked funding, they literally have nothing to do during inclement weather days, which gets them very jittery and bored. (As it is regular P.E. equipment is hard to come by these days.) Inclement weather policy in our school calls for two teachers to partner up and for one to look after students in class while the other goes to lunch. Being that both my students and my room partner's students (who are also in the academically accelerated program) are together during these inclement weather days, they can get really rowdy. Having something to do will really help them out…and what better than good old, traditional board games that can challenge their intellect.
My Project
With these traditional board games, such as Scrabble and Boggle, our 5th students will not only be able to keep themselves entertained and away from trouble during inclement weather days; but, will be able to challenge their intellect by applying their smarts and building their vocabulary skills. What gifted kid does not like to be witty during word games? I can already hear them snickering and witty remarks as they challenge themselves to “beat” each other in these challenging board games.
Please help challenge (my room partner's and) my bored, academically demanding 5th grade students to some quality game time during inclement weather days!
And help keep their eager pre-teen bodies out of trouble.
