This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I can’t wait to meet my new group of 3rd graders! I’m moving to a new school this year so I won’t have the same resources I had at my previous site. The students at my new school range from different backgrounds and ethnicities and many of the students are English Language Learners. These students work hard to achieve their goals and overcome obstacles that get in their way. Christa McAuliffe challengers aim for the stars and never give up on their dreams!

My Project

A rainbow rug would help me to provide a special meeting place for my students. Students enjoy having their own designated “spot”, which also decreases behavior incidents during carpet time. I use the rainbow rug for morning meetings, where we can build our classroom community and work on character building topics. I also have students on the rainbow rug for read alouds and a variety of other whole group lessons. The rainbow rug provides a structured seating area while also bringing color to the classroom. The addition of this rug to my classroom would really bring the classroom design together and make it a fun place to be!
