This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very curious and playful learners! Our school is in a high poverty area of the city and has a strong vision of equity and high expectations for all learners. I believe the foundation for this vision and our combined success starts with a strong and engaging Kindergarten.
Our Kindergarten team integrates learning and play in a variety of ways throughout the day and it is important to have a big, clear community space for all our friends to grow and learn!
I have 31 enthusiastic young students from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and a wide spectrum of needs who are all new to school and are learning in a second language (French).
While I am observing my students, I see inventors and engineers, pilots and ambassadors, scientists and builders. These four and five year olds are the future of our community and I want to help give them the best start possible.
My Project
All of our students spend really special time on our community rug. We sit and listen to captivating stories, we stand and practice greeting our friends and we dance, wiggle and jump during our Morning Meetings every day. With so many little ones on the rug, these rugs wear out quickly.
We want a big, clean, cozy rainbow rug to bring our class together for all these special activities.
Each student can have their own color square for learning time and there's enough space to make circles and wiggle and shake around the perimeter. This rug will really stand out as a great group space for learning.
