Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With the Core Curriculum getting more rigorous, I need materials to supplement the program to help my students build background knowledge in order to get a deeper understanding of the content.
I teach fifth graders in a public urban school in New York.
We have a 95% poverty level. Most of my students get a free or reduced lunch. They don't have resources at home like their suburban peers. They don't get the hands - on opportunities that they need to engage them in their learning.
My Project
I will use the different level books for my small group instruction. This not only helps with comprehension and fluency, it also teaches the content of the rain forest at the same time.
Then, I will pass the books and animals down the hall for the other fifth grade classes to read and observe.
You can make a huge difference in the lives of my students as well as the other fifth grade students in my school.
I can you these resources this year and for years to come. Please help my students learn about the rain forest in a fun hands - on way. Thank you for considering my project.
