I am a special education teacher. I have the amazing benefit of working with students of multiple abilities from throughout the entire school. My students are amazing and capable of doing anything.
My students are very eager to learn a new and challenging things that may give them opportunities that would not have been possible before by activating their bodies and minds to solve problems.
Active bodies make for active brains. We need to keep our bodies active so that we can keep our minds engaged in our learning.
We are a low income school. We are located just outside of a joint military base. We serve a high number of students who have parents in the military. The social and emotional skills that are developed as well as teamwork will benefit them greatly in the future.
My Project
In my room at any one time I might have 6 different groups running. With so many different focuses in my room I need supplies to assist them. We need Hi Lite paper so that students are able to work on proper writing skills and develop the creativity and story writing that they each possess. In order to be able to become a more legible and proper writer my students need the BIC mechanical pencil kits to allow for teaching of proper holding technique. This will create an ease of writing and better letter formation. My students love making flip books for animated comics and in order to take that to the next level we need a stop motion animation kit.
No Noise and the ability to record what you say makes the story come to life!
My students need Beeware headphones with microphones so that if they need quiet to work they can have it with the noise cancelation which will not only keep them focused but engage their brain in active learning. They need these same headphones to be able to record for playback what they write or read to be able to better adjust their work. This will help eliminate the fear of being an amazing writer because you can't type quickly or get the millions of ideas out of your head quick enough.
With the flexible groups in my room more options to assist the students with things that help activate their brain are needed. These items make life a little easier for some hard working students.
