My amazing group of students are a culturally and financially diverse group that include English learners, students with autism, and other special needs. Regardless their background, they are all expected to pursue excellence and to meet their full potential. At our Title I school, many students have different needs and require extra support, but they are determined to meet their educational goal.
In this class, we celebrate diversity and foster a culture of being lifelong learners.
Students at my school are creative and curious. Many of my students start the year excited to explore and learn, but some are a little nervous. Whether it is because of the language barrier for my English learners or feelings of frustration when some struggle to understand the material, my students all too often exceed my expectations with their talents, ideas, and compassion. These are the children that make me excited to stand up in front of the classroom every day. My goal is to help each student recognize and understand that their background and ideas are valuable in this classroom community.
My Project
My students love reading and Raz Kids is a perfect resource to let that happen. It is an interactive program that allows students to read, listen, and quiz themselves on text at their reading level. We tried the free trial last spring and the kids loved it! The program has fun rewards that motivate students to want to read more. I want to be able to provide them the opportunity to continue these types of fun experiences with reading.
Due to COVID, my 5th grade students do not have access to many texts that are at their reading level that they can read at home for distance learning.
Since we are unable to send books home during Covid-19, Raz Kids will fill the gap and bring the books right up to each student's screen. Raz Kids is there to meet each student where they are at! Thank you for supporting our readers!
