My Students
West Point has amazing musicians! My students come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and have a variety of emotional and behavioral needs. My classes work together to make sure each student feels included, loved and ready to achieve. I work hard to engage all kinds of learners through hands-on and authentic musical experiences. When our school merged with another, I lost my full-size classroom, but that hasn’t stopped us from filling our small space with beautiful sounds. Our classroom is small but our hearts for music are so big!
My Project
The Drums Alive program uses stability balls, ball holders and drum sticks to provide a cutting edge fitness program to blend stability and resistant training with the powerful rhythmical world of percussion. It combines simple dynamic movements with pulsating rhythms of the drum. Kids learn movement, rhythm, and concentration, in addition to integral stimulation.
Students use stability balls to increase focus and participate in using them as drums to improve left and right brain pathways, integrate toning, flexibility, movement and rhythmical flow.
The storage for our stability balls is a vital part of our program. These racks will help us to keep our investment safe and out of the way in our PE and Music classrooms. Using the racks, the students are able to put back their equipment quickly and safely.
