My students need this magazine floor stand for theme notebooks/journals. Our English Department went to a training that encouraged setting up this reading resource, so I need a place to put the 30 journals now.
Teenagers. 14. 15. 16. 17. Those years are full of growth and wonder. High School students come into my classroom with verve and insecurities that must be met with caring concern and educational expectations that maintain strict boundaries. There are many distractions and competition for focus, but these students respond very positively to student-led classroom arrangements that engage their desire to better themselves.
All humans want to be valued and respected, especially our youth.
Through a nurturing environment, my students find success.
My Project
We have an English Department initiative this coming year to implement Reading Response Journals. As we are in the process of recovering from the stress of Hurricane Harvey, the department chair, and curriculum coordinator would like us to set up 30 themed composition books to engage our students and improve our test scores. I need this rack to securely store the journal books. Themed journals provide learners with an opportunity to record their personal thoughts, emotions, ideas, questions, reflections, connections, and new learning on what they hear, view, read, write, discuss and think that matches the labeled theme.
“What we as educators want is that their writing enable students to personalize a story and gain insights about the characters, to help them reflect, and to help them see the world in a different way.” (Brownlie, 2005)
Hopefully, then, other students will engage in peer writing and be encouraged to read the same book or have a conversation about the writing they read. I need the rack to be accessible and engaging in the classroom.
