My students enjoy reading with a book in their hands. This is increasingly difficult in our current situation of virtual school only. These students spend so much time looking at a screen with classes throughout the school day and then assignments from their classes all online. These students engage in robust discussions from great books like Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and hopefully future books.
Students holding a book in their hands and really sinking into it and the journey is what my students love to do.
It's what makes them special. Many are sad when the story is over.
With this book, an understanding of where racism began and how it continued is a "good thing" as students comprehend knowledge of this is good.
My Project
Where did racism begin? This was a question that came up during a Socratic Seminar discussing the Bryan Stevenson Book, "Just Mercy." Providing less time looking at a screen is essential to help students learn and save their eyes from over exposure to screens. This books will hopefully be sent to homes as we continue virtual learning from home for the forceable future.
Young scholars at my school will engage in Socratic Seminars discussing the content of the text.
Along with that they will be answering the question of, "What is good?" I think that knowledge is good. Especially knowledge of where racism started and how and why it continues.
