My Project

The fifth graders at our Elementary are very special to me. They have been my students since some of them were in Kindergarten. It has been amazing to see them grow and change. I am so encouraged by their zest for learning post Pandemic. We are a Title I school. The socio economic levels are reflected in the children's lack of reading materials that they own at home. School is packed with so much rigor that reading this novel has been a welcome relief. I am impressed with 100% classroom engagement.

Post Pandemic reading scores have fallen 6 to 7 percentile points in elementary school children.

These students have really enjoyed reading this novel as a class.

It is my hope that this will help to rekindle a love of reading in some and spark a new interest for others. We struggled as there was not a great deal of normalcy in education for the past two years. We have finished the first novel of this series of Track Adventures written by Jason Reynolds and the students have absolutely LOVED this series. I would like to be able to finish the series with them before this year ends. We need the next two books in the form of class sets to read together. Reading with students is a surefire way to grow readers. Reading with them shares the treasure of a good book......that's how great readers are born.
