Our goal is to maximize student reading comprehension.
In order to achieve this, facilitating personal motivation for reading is key. Students must see the relevance for reading in their lives and find enjoyment in it. For this reason, we are seeking high-interest reading selections in order to achieve this key element and thus, improve reading comprehension for all middle school students. This will establish strong skill sets and help all students recognize their tremendous capacity for growth at this age.
My Project
This year, the state of Indiana is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with a One State/One Story focus on reading. Our middle school is joining with the state to bring attention to this remarkable classic and to promote reading. We will be supplying our school with copies of a new book that truly "connects" with today's readers and securing classroom subscriptions to Scholastic's Scope magazine.
We will be POWERING UP with reading this year!
Our theme-focused reading push will be a community effort to ENERGIZE the students to dive in to good books. The book we selected, Gamer Army, is designed to reach today's students who are enamored with the world of gaming and often reluctant to pick up a book.
