My Students
I am a blended model teacher working in Harlem, New York City. I have the pleasure of working with some fantastic, hard-working students. Each morning, whether online or in-person, my goal is to plan and think of creative lessons to help them reach a higher academic learning level. The community is very diverse and has a rich cultural identity amongst its residents. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch based on their family's income status.
At this present time, I have students who attend school online and in-person.
I can honestly say, since this pandemic, my students are more caring, concern, and helpful towards one another. I have not had to reinforce many rules but only to stay six feet apart and wash their hands throughout the day. It has not been easy for a lot of my students.
My Project
The learning platform that I truly believe will help close the academic gaps is Quizizz. Students will use this platform to assist them with academic loss due to the pandemic. Students are beginning to feel better about meeting their educational goals, such as learning to multiply and getting positive feedback in their online learning. I plan on using Quizziz to help students in building their math skills during math independent time.
Students can work on areas needed to help them connect with math skills that are challenging.
I will use Quizizz as an activity for homework and during live instruction as well. When students can work online and get feedback on a question and skill immediately, they will continue to improve on a skill or concept more readily. I truly believe that when students can complete a task successfully, it builds their self-esteem and self-confidence to work and complete a task.
Words cannot fully explain how cleaning supplies are so important to have during this pandemic. Each morning I spend 45 minutes disinfecting the desks, chairs, and other items students may come in contact with during the day. It is very critical to have adequate cleaning supplies to prevent the spread of this deadly virus.
