My school is a K-7 International Baccalaureate magnet program in a large, urban district. All students have music twice a week where dancing, singing and playing instruments are the heart of our music program. I always look forward to my music classes because my students are smart, curious, funny, eager and so loving! They are diverse in many ways -racially, economically, academically, socially, and emotionally.
The universal language of music brings us all together.
It is the great equalizer. On the other hand, our diversity is celebrated and brings different cultural strengths to our music-making.
My Project
The items in my project will provide basic needs to my students. The requested batteries are for our wireless microphones and projector clicker presenter. My students use the microphones for concerts, presentations, and assemblies. The projector clicker is a favorite of my middle school students who run beginning-of-class warm-ups. We need to change the batteries several times a year because this piece of technology gets used so much! Students scramble to see who will lead the day and use the presenter clicker to move through our opening slideshow. To have fresh batteries on hand keeps my students always ready!
Basics create extraordinary opportunities!
A bookshelf is a classroom basic and the requested rolling cart will provide the space to hold our Little Kids Rock band music. Binders with our music for guitar and keyboard will fit nicely in this bookshelf and the BEST accessory is the ability to roll anywhere we need it. Students can grab, go, and start making MUSIC!
The last requested item is a way to transform old file cabinets with no hanging file folder capabilities into a system that nicely holds all of our hanging files. These metal rods snap to fit the dimensions of your cabinet and create a frame to hold your folders. Student music and manipulatives all will have a place for me and my students to easily find what we need!
