Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of items needed to keep our classroom running smoothly. A printer and supply of toner and paper will be used to print out student work, homework, and lessons. Disinfecting wipes are needed to keep our tables, chairs, and hands-on materials clean. Cold and flu season is upon us! Attendance is important to successful learning, and keeping our classroom clean is one small way to support better student attendance. A supply of tissues will also help in this effort.
I am also requesting dry erase markers that the children will use at our marker board center, and school glue to be used for art projects.
The children love using the markers--they have fun being creative and enjoy exploring with the colors. Unfortunately, they can be quite expensive. With your help, my students will be able to enjoy these new markers! Lastly, I have requested some colorful wristbands to give to the students on Valentines Day. They will love them, and love all these wonderful supplies!
