Quiet, Cozy Classroom Corner For Social Emotional Learning
My students need a quiet corner with cozy seating with a carpet that will designate the space, a canopy that will create a quiet space separate from the rest of the library and the beanbag seats will soothe and calm.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you heard of Social Emotional Learning? I'm welcoming a group of students with great potential in my third grade classroom this year. Since attending U-46 Gifted Seminar over the summer, I realized we need a distinct quiet zone for our diverse classroom.
A quiet corner is a special, soft, soothing place in the classroom for students to go specifically to calm themselves down or give themselves a rest.
Gifted and talented, typical and atypical learners spent a huge amount of energy when thinking and after great exertion, they need a place to recharge.
A designated Quiet Zone will provide students with a place which will enable them to calm down and regain focus better than without one.
My Project
Students today are under a lot of pressure to learn and perform well in school. They are in need of a classroom that inspires them as well as safe place to learn. Students need to learn to keep their emotions in check. This is social emotional learning. In S.E.L., students learn to recognize when they are feeling overwhelmed and need a place to soothe these anxious feelings.
This idea for a quiet, cozy corner came to me when I attended the Gifted Seminar over the summer.
I must say it was paradigm shifting. Students have many pressures which can get to them. The recent Watson Institute research shows pupils learn best when they feel safe, valued and part of the group. In short, when children feel comfortable and safe, they are better able to learn.
