This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in a low income, high poverty neighborhood in San Antonio Texas in a Title I district. I provide direct special education services to the students in my campus.

My student all have different cognitive needs who depend on small group instruction and differentiate accommodations.

The kids are inquisitive and energetic bunch who encourage me to strive in creating a fun learning environment. My goal is to do everything I can to help them become actively engaged in learning every day.

My Project

Since we have to adjust our classroom environment on a daily based to accommodate our students individual needs. We have to move desks around in the the classroom on a regular bases during classroom instruction. So scuffling desks and chairs can be extremely distracting. This makes a lot of noise and interferes with the students reading and in small group instruction. Therefore, noise is not beneficial to a productive learning environment.

Tennis balls will help cut down the unpleasant noise in our classroom.

Some of my students are very aware of the smallest distracting sounds in the classroom. Additionally, my students who still prefer the standard chair will be less likely to rock in the chairs when they have tennis balls on the legs. This is an practical modification to help our students stay on task.
