My students need a rug that meets our fire safety standards and five pillows to go along with it to create a calm, quiet, reading corner in our classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come into First Grade in August rearing to learn. They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences including students from other countries and who speak more than one language.
My school and classroom also continue to be a high-poverty school of around 95%, but that doesn't stop them from trying their best and persevering through difficult times, both in and outside of the classroom.
They are curious, motivated learners who enjoy showing off what they have learned and what they can do.
My Project
This project will help me create a quiet, calm area in a corner of my First Grade classroom to promote stamina during self-selected reading time. First graders love to read and love to learn how to read, but some students do need a quiet, calm area to do this. This corner will be dedicated to a student or students who choose they would like to read in a quiet, calm area. This will also help my young First Grade students understand the difference between good choices and not so good choices, since they will be able to choose where they read.
