Help me give my students portable light up geometry centers, magnetic dolls, flannel board sets, flannel boards, reusable stickers and sticker boards, Colorforms sets, magnetic designer and pattern cards and aqua doodle reusable boards.
At our school, we firmly believe that all children, no matter what their cognitive levels are, have the capacity to learn. Through this belief, we as teachers are constantly finding creative and new learning approaches to help our students be successful.
This year I will be working with twenty-one amazing 4-year-old preschool students attending our full day preschool program.
These students are either attending preschool for the very first time or transitioning from half-day to full day. The students come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds which lends itself to a diverse classroom environment. The students also have different learning preferences whether it is visual, kinesthetic or auditory.
Regardless of their backgrounds and their learning preference, all of the students are eager to learn and explore their world around them. My goal is to give them as many tools as possible to become active and engaged learners.
My Project
For full day preschoolers, having quiet time is an important part of their day. Quiet time occurs directly after lunch and is meant to be a time where the children can engage take a brain break. Students can rest or occupy themselves with independent quiet activities, puzzles or books.
My preschool students need independent activities they can use on their own mat area during our afternoon quiet time.
I have selected materials I believe my students will be interested based upon observing them during free time as well as having them tell me items they are enjoy. The geometry light-up activity center is compact and portable and will appeal to the students that already enjoy our classroom light table. The Create-A-Scene felt boards will let the students re-enact their favorite stories which is not only a super quiet time activity but also strengthens their retelling skills an important component of literacy. I have also selected felt series containing some of their favorite characters including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Pete the Cat. For my budding artists, the Aqua Doodle travel doodle as well as the magnetic designer and mosaic picture makers will keep them content during this time. Lastly, for my students that enjoy creative quiet play will enjoy the Colorforms sets and puffy reusable stickers.
Although most of the students are tired during this time, it is hard for them to keep quiet and calm themselves. I am hoping that by giving them choices of different quiet time activities, they will be able to engage themselves in that much needed 'brain break' from school work. I am asking for a variety of items so I can switch the choices around so they are not always presented with the same choices. Thank you in advance for helping to support us!
