My students need stackable stools for seating in our music classroom so we can sit when we need to play instruments and quickly move them when it's time to dance!
My students are an amazing group of kids. Our school is in a small section of a rural school district with 4,400 students in total. The small town is committed to the education of their children! Providing supplies for our students is so important as the majority of students in our school district come from low-income households; the average income in our district is $19,000 a year. All of our students receive free breakfast daily, and many receive free lunch as well. Unfortunately, many of our students come to school without basic classroom supplies, and school budgets for materials are limited.
My students are smart, curious, loving, and engaged; they need to sing, dance, perform, and create!
Musical supplies make such a difference to my students, because it gives them the opportunity to hone individual skills while working towards group success. Music increases literacy, STEM, and math skills! Students who study music do better in school and in life!
As the music teacher in our small town, I will teach every child in our community! The resources in this project will impact literally every child in our town for years to come!
My Project
My music room is a small but cozy space! During a normal class, we will start with a welcome song, transition to instrument playing, and end up playing a circle game or a doing a line dance. All of these things happen in a short, 45 minute class period!
We need seating that is compact, easy to store, and easy to move.
Since I teach every student in our school and see each student on a four day rotation, I have a LOT of things to pack in to every class! We need to be able to transition quickly between singing, instrument playing, dancing, and expressive movement. Chairs are bulky, take up floor space we need for movement, and are difficult to pull in and out. With stool seating, we can quickly pull out seating when we need it and put it away when we don't. My after school choir will be able to set for rehearsal in moments, instead of minutes, saving us valuable instructional time. And, at our performances, this seating can be used in front of the students standing on risers, to add another "Layer" so that our students can be visible to the audience! Stools will make it possible!
