This project will serve a group of elementary aged students who are destined to have huge impacts on the world. Although 80% of them live in poverty, and more than 60% are English language learners, they are hard workers who only wish to achieve, and one day leave their footprint on the world. Many of these young boys and girls are overcoming the language barriers of learning a second language, many of whom are separated from their families who live thousands of miles away. Some live just down the street, but need and deserve the enrichment that real-world projects can provide.
I am simply asking for magnetic dry erase boards that can be used for a variety of academic tasks, but especially for quick response tasks where I stop and ask students to respond on their white board so that I can check for understanding. During many of our lessons, such as our wants and needs unit, my students practice quickly writing down a want or a need depending on what I ask for. Sometimes I ask them to compose a quick definition and show me. Other times, we will be using magnetic letters to practice words that are more challenging and need extra practice manipulating! These hands-on experiences really involve my students in the learning and keep them engaged.
