Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing students, many of whom are facing more challenges than you could ever imagine - from moving to a new country and having to learn English to having to face all of the challenges that living in poverty brings. Despite the challenges they are facing, my students bring incredible strengths to the classroom, including incredibly strong work ethics and a desire to constantly learn and grow.
I feel incredibly lucky to work with such dedicated, hard-working, motivated, and kind students each day.
My Project
As our teachers are getting better at virtual teaching, we want to keep pushing their skills and abilities to engage our ELL students in critical thinking, cognitive growth, and language development.
Our teachers are excited to grow and learn and they need books to help them become better questioners in the classroom so that they are speaking less and students are speaking more.
For example, as we are working with our students on identifying the theme in poetry, we want to get good at asking questions to guide students to identifying the theme, rather than giving them the answer. We also want to be able to ask broader questions for exploration in science, such as, what is your role in addressing climate change?
Please consider helping to give our teachers these resources to help build their skills and further student learning during a year that is unlike any before. We are eternally grateful for your support.
