My students need advanced technology in order to compete in the 21st century. By equipping their lab with this technology, they will be ahead of the game.
Students in high school need to get their hands on technology that they may use when they obtain a career in Agriculture. The Spectrovis determines light emission so that plants can be properly mated with the needed light for optimum growth.
These students are typically freshmen and sophomores interested in agriculture science.
More than 50% of the students here receive free or reduced lunch and make it a struggle to obtain class fees or donations. These students are eager to often be the first in their family to attend college and often just need the technology to encourage them. By using LabQuest items, the students feel comfortable because they are built similar to their gaming systems in operation.
My Project
Simply put, the students will understand that light is not created equal. In conjunction with the Lab Quest OS we currently have, this new technology of a Spectrovis, will allow the students an experience not gained in other courses. This becomes important when searching for alternative sources of light for non-traditional agricultural practices, which will be the future of agriculture. These include: hydroponics, roof top gardening, indoor planting, and aquaculture.
As previous referenced, these students will be gaining knowledge not available in other courses that they may take in high school.
The concepts can be taught traditionally with paper and pencil but will be grasped better by the students if they can use new and innovative technology, in the form of a Spectrovis. This will make these students competitive in the global market as they leave high school and enter college.
