Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Namaste Charter School is a fantastic school that not only strives to meet the educational needs of its students, but takes a more holistic approach by educating students and parents about nutrition, physical fitness and healthy living. Namaste Charter School strives to meet the needs of its students starting with the inside. Students who are active daily and have healthy bodies are more ready to learn and will be more successful in school. Our school provides healthy lunch options like a salad bar for the students and each class has a full hour of P.E. every day. Since students are so active at Namaste, (students also have 25 minutes of recess and teachers make time for movement breaks during the day) it is important that our students stay hydrated. Research shows that our bodies and brains need water not only for us to survive but to keep our healthy minds actively learning. In order to decrease time spent at the hallway water fountain each classroom has its own water cooler. We would like to provide each student with a water bottle so he/she can easily access it through out the day. Namaste Charter School opened in the fall of 2004 with 50 students in grades K-1. Each year a grade level will be added until it reaches eighth grade. We currently have 200 K-3 students. We would like 200 of the same kind of water bottle so each student may keep it at his/her seat. We want to make sure that we are modeling and providing a healthy lifestyle for our students that include encouraging them to drink water. Please quench our thirst!
