Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in Nipomo, a small town on the Central Coast of California. My students are an incredibly diverse group, with about a third of the class speaking English as a second language.
I can already tell that my students are an enthusiastic and resilient bunch!
Despite spending the last 5 months distance learning, they are cheerful and excited to learn every morning when they join our class meetings. They always greet me with a "Good Morning" and a smile!
I am amazed by their positive attitudes and work ethic just two weeks into the new school year! They have accepted the challenge of Distance Learning and have been so adaptive. No amount of slow wifi, technological struggle, or distance can slow them down. I have no doubt that this will be an incredible group of students to teach!
My Project
The week before this school year started, I found out I would be teaching a full class of fifth graders! I'm excited for this new adventure, but not fully prepared with classroom supplies. As a sixth grade teacher, I taught novel studies and my students and I loved them. Students that had previously expressed a hatred for reading came alive during the engaging and diverse novel studies. I would love to be able to bring this same enthusiasm to my fifth grade classroom!
By donating to this project, you will help my students and I have the most engaging and fun learning experience possible during Distance Learning!
Both The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind and Esperanza Rising will help my students expand their horizons and learn about diverse experiences around the world while we are all stuck at home.
