I have 26 first graders at our school in Sanger, California. Our school is located in a rural farming community where cows can be seen outside many of our class windows, and roosters can be heard crowing periodically. These "distractions" definitely don't get in the way of student learning.
My students are EAGER LEARNERS who have a great desire to meet their goals.
My students have varied backgrounds and experiences, but our school environment creates freedom to learn from mistakes which aids in every student's success. They love to read, write stories, and create math word problems to challenge their peers. They are also a strong community that is always ready to reach out and support those in their group who might be struggling to spell a word or solve a problem. Our children are excited to be the "teacher" when explaining their strategies to the class while also being patient when answering questions if a student fails to understand their method. Our students excel because we believe in each student's potential for learning!
My Project
These books have been chosen specifically for reading lessons and will be use more than once during the year.
Please give my students the opportunity to use quality literature to strengthen their reading.
These books will be used during Readers Workshop to teach specific strategies and skills they need to be successful readers.
It has been amazing for me to see some of my colleagues use these books to instruct their students. The students are not only excited when the books are read to them, but they are inspired to used the skill they have learned during independent reading. I can't wait to begin!
Thank you so much for your considering my project.
