This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a large, urban district in Wisconsin. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. My three year old students attend a full day Head Start program. Although I teach regular education, I usually have three to four special education students each year.
My students come to school eager and ready to learn.
They also have very short attention spans and need a variety of different activities throughout the day. Children learn best when they are actively engaged with age appropriate materials.
My Project
My students are in need of some new and some culturally relevant read alouds that are well written and age appropriate so my three year olds can be fully engaged in listening to stories from beginning to end. Comprehension skills, listening skills and vocabulary building are practiced daily in our classroom and these books will help to improve on these skills.
Most of my students are between 36 and 42 months of age when they enter my classroom and many don’t have access to quality hard cover literature.
By donating to this project you are ensuring my students have reading materials that will peak their interest and curiosity in books. This is a skill that will have a lifelong impact for each of them!
