Students at my school are bright and self driven. They bring so much love and energy into their work. In art, all of these skills shine through with well thought out, conceptual, and creative artwork. They are always asking to push past any boundaries I may have created in an assignment.
They are open to criticism and critical reflection.
Students are often asked to look back and review what they have done. They look at craftsmanship and composition. They rework their projects with feedback and constructive criticism from peers.
EBIA teachers use Project Based Learning and Blended Learning. Students have skills for group work that most adults are still learning. They are often advocates for their personal beliefs and the rights of others. Equity is so important.
My Project
A donor recently brought up that students should have access to quality markers and materials in the art room. I have been buying cheaper materials so that I can get more with the little budget I have to work with. The donor was absolutely right about this. Students who can afford it, are bringing their own quality markers from home. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many of my students. If the art room can bring them access to these quality materials, it could make a difference in the quality of work they are creating. These items will make a world of a difference in their artwork. I have requested enough illustration board for all of the 7th graders to create an illustration. They will likely be creating graphic abstracted self portraits. Students will use the Prismacolor markers to simplify details and lessen the value range in a gridded portrait. The sharpies will be used for defining lines in this project but also in many other projects. Thin sharpies are like gold in my classroom. Students are always using them up!
