Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classes are taking a course that is one to two grade levels ahead of the norm. They are dedicated students who love to learn and arrive prepared each day. Students in my class love to work and help each other. This was demonstrated during one class project when students were to find the area of different objects (the dimensions were polynomials) and together they needed to find a code to solve the riddle. Students diligently worked together to solve the puzzle and used all resources available to get it done.
Unfortunately, not all students have the ability to obtain needed materials which is why I purchase many materials for them to aid in their learning.
As much as they want to participate, many students need to share with others because they do not come to school with all they need. They are diverse students with different needs who all share the intent to do their best at a course with material that is above their grade level.
My Project
Students will be placed in groups of 4. They will be assigned a quadratic function. Students will use the whiteboard and clipboards to sketch ideas about how their quadratic function relates to real life. For instance, they might sketch a basketball being thrown from the court through a hoop or a bridge with an arch. Their quadratic function needs to have a real-life application. Students will then take turns using the Cricut to create a 3-D poster of their quadratic function and the scenario it portrays such as a basketball court with the hoop at the end with the quadratic function written down. Students will write the key features of the graph based on the equation given.
