I am teaching students in grades 6th through 8th grade with special needs. My students are amazing, but have some struggles through their own life experiences. The students I work with have a background of trauma.
The students I work with have a hard time using their fine motor skills and imagination to manipulate anything outside of reality.
Some days, their reality is skewed by the effect of their past trauma, and their behaviors are the result when they don't understand imagination.
The students within my program lack versatility within their day to day life, and allowing them to do hands on projects such as puzzles, STEM and other opportunities have helped benefit their learning.
My Project
The materials being requested will allow my students to work on hands on opportunities in the midst of the book work.
Students aren't always book learners, and allowing them to have a hands on approach, will help in the excitement of learning.
The puzzles being requested are going to give them an in-depth process to work through a trip they are going to attend at the end of their 8th grade year in school. The books don't always give the excitement and being able to manipulate and understand the knowledge and time it takes to build such things, will help in the appreciation.
