I am a kindergarten teacher in Raleigh, NC. I teach on a grade level with five other teachers, and we teach 120 kindergartners. The students are all on different social, emotional, and academic levels. These students are very eager to learn.
Puzzles, learning games, and cooperative play activities will impact our students in a positive manner.
Our school is partnering with the positive project to implement daily character building activities. These new learning tools will help our students be responsible, respectful, kind, and positive!
My Project
This project would impact 120 kindergartners. These new puzzles would help with our students' fine motor skills. Fishing for Sight-Words would be a great way for students to learn and reinforce sight words that are necessary for reading. These new activities will put more focus on collaboration and teamwork without the use of technology. For example, the large alphabet puzzle would encourage teamwork to assemble. The Match It! Early Math Skills Set aligns with our state standards in math and the students will love using these to learn addition and subtraction.
Hirsh-Pasek (Temple University) said, "Learning how to play teaches collaboration and community building, which aids language development through listening and talking.
Language, in turn, is necessary for reading, writing, math, and every subject after. Critical thinking skills are also developed by creativity and innovation learned through play. And play teaches skills such as the confidence to learn from failures."
