My Students
My students are scholars, learners, writers, readers, and mathematicians. They speak English, Arabic, Spanish, Lao, Tibetan, Vietnamese and Tagalog and each brings their unique backgrounds to our classroom.
My students are shooting for the stars this year as they explore their inherent capabilities as learners, friends, and members of a classroom community that values kindness, diversity, and respect.
Stege Elementary is a Title I school, which means that more than half of the families it serves come from low-income households. Twenty-five percent of students are English Language Learners, ninety-three percent are from low-income households, and one-hundred percent receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I am putting together a new puzzles center in my classroom. I believe that the fine motor, literacy, and logic skills built while putting puzzles together are essential to my students' academic growth. I have selected puzzles that relate to my classroom themes: all about me, community helpers, things that grow, transportation, and so on.
Puzzles are a great tool for engaging young students in literacy topics and math concepts, and for building critical fine motor skills.
I believe that my students deserve access to all of the resources I can give them, but I can only afford to give so much. I know that these puzzles will be an invaluable addition to our free choice centers time.
