My students are an energetic group of Spanish-dominant and English-dominant students that spend half of the day learning in Spanish and half of the day learning in English.
Students come from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds!
We are in a school that has two different learning strands: Dual Language Immersion and English only instruction. We serve a very diverse population with over sixty percent of students living in poverty; almost all of the students in my class make up part of that sixty percent. We are also unique in that minority cultures make up the majority of our school population.
My Project
As the school year has progressed, we have discovered the joy of doing puzzles together. Our classroom is like a family and when they have a choice to do a screen free activity, they keep doing the two puzzles we have in the classroom. We need something new to activate our brains!
Doing puzzles allows for socialization and the prizes are great motivators as we continue to learn during a pandemic.
Additionally, the coloring bookmarks serve a dual purpose of a calming activity that will also motivate students to challenge themselves to reading harder, longer texts.
