My school is located up on a mountainside about 60 miles outside of Seattle. We are small; there are only about 60 students in our K-12 school. My middle school class has 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. They stay with me all day and learn all subjects in our one classroom.
My students are fun, creative, and hardworking.
Despite the rural area and limited opportunities, my students come in everyday excited to learn and interact with their classmates. I want to focus on building a community of learners and supporting students to develop socially and emotionally, as well as academically.
My Project
Every day my students have free time through breaks, flex time at the end of the day, and an after school program. These times are great for getting school work done, but often my students find themselves looking for things to do. Sometimes they need a break from all the work and crazy that the school day brings. That's where games come into play.
Games and puzzles would allow my students to have fun, stay busy, and learn while collaborating with their classmates.
The students will be able to work on their social skills in a low risk environment. Games and competition give them the opportunity to learn how to be better classmates. And it's fun!!
