My Students

First-grade students are curious and love to work together in small groups to solve challenges. They are eager to share their ideas and strategies for problem-solving. They do not give up easily.

My first-grade students love challenges that allow them to go hands-on to solve problems.

They need opportunities to explore and discuss strategies to build a depth of knowledge that can apply to many challenges.

First-grade students can work together regardless of gender and race to problem solve and rise to a challenge.

My Project

First-grade students love to work in small groups to solve all types of problems. They discuss and share ideas. Puzzles are an ideal project because the students must discuss how and why each piece belongs.

The children delight in seeing the picture come to life as they build the puzzle on the carpet.

If a piece is put into the wrong place, a discussion, and an opportunity to learn from each other immediately arises.

Each puzzle has a colorful image of different things that the children currently are learning in science and or social studies. The puzzle discussions almost always lead to further talk and questions on the topic.
