Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help budding young architects and engineers learn about spatial concepts with floor puzzles! I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title 1 school. Many of my students are learning English as a second language. I would like to create a puzzle center in my classroom. Kindergartners learn so much with puzzles. Did you know that a young child completing a puzzle is learning important math concepts such as fractions, geometry and symmetry? Puzzles help children develop good hand-eye coordination and working large puzzles together promotes teamwork. I am asking for an assortment of large floor puzzles for my class. These puzzles will be part of a learning center where students may choose to go work together to complete them. I'm asking for several puzzles that go along with topics we explore in kindergarten. For example, there is a sea life puzzle to correspond with that unit and a bulldozer puzzle that we will use when we talk about transportation and communities. My students really love the hands-on experience of working puzzles. I have been so excited to see these students using social skills and learning how to communicate with one another to complete projects like this.
One third of my class are students learning English as a second language. Activities like working puzzles gives them a chance to interact with the subject we're learning about. Many of these students excel at math and spatial task. Having more activities like this will help these students develop confidence and feel like the stars that they are!
