Putting Their Best Foot Forward: Equipping My Student-Athletes With Cleats

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students of various backgrounds and skill levels. These are energetic student-athletes who are seeking outlets and activities that match their energy and interest levels. Working in a low-income school district, it is often difficult to find resources that attract our students to new athletic opportunities.
I want to do everything in my power to allow my student-athletes to have the materials that they need so that they are able to pursue as many new athletic opportunities available to them.
Although many of my students may have had a lack of resources and equipment in the past, I would like them to be exposed to as many new athletic opportunities, as possible.
My Project
There are well-known stories of Pele growing up playing soccer barefoot. Later on, he would become the best player in the history of soccer. However, there is only one Pele. Think about all the thousands of kids who tried to play barefoot and could not continue because they did not have the financial backing to compete with others their age. All of those unknown names who could have risen to greatness on the pitch but couldn't afford one of the most vital pieces of equipment. I want to make sure that my players are that much closer to closing the gap between themselves and their more affluent competition.
I have even had some players stop playing because they thought they would not be allowed to continue due to the fact that they could not afford cleats.
This is why I am proposing providing cleats for my soccer players who do not have the money to buy them. As our team is already at a disadvantage due to the fact that soccer is a neglected sport in our area, my players should not be put at more of a disadvantage simply because they do not have access to such a vital piece of equipment. We may not win every game, but at least we can be one step closer to having a fair chance against our competition.
